A Star is Born

Last night, January 9, 2009, was opening night for The Miracle Worker in which Reagan plays Helen Keller. She has worked so hard since rehearsals started on December 8, 2008. She has never complained once about having to go to rehearsal or missing gymnastics or having to do homework at school! She has been fabulous! It's very interesting to watch a child who has not been exposed to theater or anything of the likes before...she doesn't bitch and complain or talk back like the adult actors (sometimes) do. :)

Anyway, opening night was a success! The cast had a final dress rehearsal in the morning with an audience, which went very well too. Reagan said she was nervous, but didn't appear nervous to me at all! She had so many friends in the audience to support her. Greg was more nervous for her then she was, I was just excited for her! After all her hard work, she finally got to have fun!

Her biggest challenge was learning how to act blind. It is awfully hard to keep a deaf child from looking at the other actors for her cues. Most of her cues were physical, but she had some lines to cue from. We tried to have her wear a blindfold, or a bedtime mask, for rehearsal, but she peeked out the bottom and followed the staging lines on the floor! Ha!

Well, she has a grueling perforamance schedule for the next two weeks. She will be out of school for two weeks because of all the morning performances. She likes that idea, me not so much, becuase I will be making up the homework with her. The show runs from January 9th to the 23rd, with a total of 15 performances!

I am so proud of Reagan!
